Laura Trott

Star of the next generation of female British track cyclists, at the age of 21 Laura Trott has already won two Olympic gold medals as well as titles at the National, European and World Track Championships. Trott was born in Harlow in April 1992. She and her sister Emma, an accomplished road cyclist, took up the sport alongside their mother when she decided to use it as a means of weight loss.

From 2008 Trott had multiple successes as a junior in the national track competitions and started picking up national and European senior titles in 2010. Her senior world debut came in 2011 when she took gold in the Team Pursuit at the Track World Championships. She retained that title the following year, part of the team that broke the world record twice in their way to grabbing the Rainbow Jersey. She added to this with gold in the Omnium shortly after. Her team carried this form into their home Olympics at London 2012, breaking the world record a further three times on their way to victory, and Trott again did the double with gold in the Omnium. The young riders incredible achievements were rewarded with an OBE in the 2013 New Years Honours list.

2013 brought yet another successful defense of her Team Pursuit title at the World Championships, though this time she could only manage silver in the Omnium. At the start of the year she signed for the Wiggle Honda women’s professional road cycling team with intentions to repeat her track success in the peloton.
